Dennis Mitchell

Dennis Merle Mitchell beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away surrounded by family and friends at Perham Health on April 18, 2019.

Dennis was the youngest of three children, born November 4, 1958 in Detroit lakes, Minnesota to Merle and Esther (Johnson) Mitchell.  As a young man, Dennis played football, basketball, baseball, and golf.  He loved watching sports in his spare time.  He graduated from Frazee High School in 1977 and Moorhead State University in 1982.  He worked at Kelley Bean as the Warehouse Manager for his entire career and was a faithful member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church.

On November 22, 1986, Dennis married the love of his life, Karen (Bormann) Mitchell at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.  For thirty-two years, Dennis and Karen created a marriage full of love and adventure.  Together they raised three boys and enjoyed many trips as a family including; Yellowstone, Glacier, Colorado, and the north shore of Lake Superior.  Many of their best memories were made with family at their annual camping site each summer.  Dennis loved fishing and hunting with his sons, family and friends.  Especially on trips to Rainy River.

Dennis & Karen loved taking long motorcycle rides and the companionship of their dog, Max.  He especially loved spending time with his one-year old grandson; Everett.  Dennis showed his love for others through action.  He would do just about anything for his friends and family.  His sons describe him as kind, quiet, loyal, committed, thoughtful and strong.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Merle and Esther and is survived by his wife Karen; sons Josh (Haley), Justin (Sara), and Jared; grandson Everett; and his siblings Gerald (Audrey) and Beverly; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 and parish prayers at 7:00 on Wednesday, April 24 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham.   Visitation will resume from 10:30-11:30 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 11:30 on Thursday, April 25 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Perham.  Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
