Dennis was born December 31, 1936, the oldest child of Lauren and Marie (Wells) Hein. He attended a one room school house near his home and later attended Perham High School. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church of Richville. He served in the Army for three years as a sharp shooter and was stationed in Panama. After his honorable discharge, Dennis married Mary Byram on July 25, 1959. They made their home in rural Richville where Dennis worked as a building contractor until his health forced him into retirement. Dennis was well known to all as the "go to man" for constructions advice. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Richville and was not only instrumental in the ongoing physical structure of the building through two reconstructions, but also the spiritual well-being of the church as a leader, that many members and pastors have turned to.
