Eric was born March 19, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN to Conrad A. and Rose D. (Bertek) Erickson. The family moved to a farm outside of Grove City, MN where Eric grew up with his brother Lyman and sister Shirley.
Eric was a farm boy who started fishing at a very young age. He and his dogs would head to the lake early in the morning and they would fish all day, summer, winter, spring and fall. In his late teens, Eric enjoyed riding his 1914 Harley Davidson motorcycle. He attended Grove City High School and at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Air Force. This was in 1948, following the death of his brother Lyman, who was killed in combat in World War II. Eric went through basic training and special schooling in the Air Force to be a communications technician. He was stationed in Japan and Korea during the Korean War.
After Eric was honorably discharged, he moved to Alaska for a year and then moved back to Minneapolis. He was visiting his sister when he met her friend, Nelda Sonnenberg. He knew the minute he met Nelda, she was the one for him. Eric and Nelda married on June 11, 1955. Together they had four children. Eric worked for Honeywell for 28 years. His vacation time was spent up north in the Dent and Vergas, MN area, fishing. In 1997, he lost his love, Nel. Eric enjoyed reading books: westerns, war or mysteries. He liked to watch the Vikings and Twins; he could read a book and watch a game at the same time. He always knew the storyline and the score.
Eric had three kitties who loved him very much: Shadow, Al and Sandy. He enjoyed feeding the birds, deer and turkeys every day. Eric loved fishing and he taught his four children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to fish. We miss him, but we know he is with mom, his favorite fishing partner.
Preceding Eric in death were his parents; his brother Lyman; his sister Shirley; his brother-in-law Bud Van Hatten; his sister-in-law Margaret Winkels; and his brother-in-law Matt Winkels.
Surviving Eric are his children Cheryl, Melody, Troy and Shannon Erickson; honorary daughter-in-law Angie Zegar; his grandchildren Jessica Williams (fiancé Jeremy Girard), Nicole (Elvis) Blazevic, Troy M. Erickson (fiancé Sarah Kaprelian), Luke Erickson and Aleah Erickson; great-grandchildren Tiffany Williams, Jaxson Blazevic and Aria Blazevic; brother and sister-in-law Victor and Janice Sonnenberg; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
