Charles Silbernagel

Charles A. Silbernagel, age 92 of Dent, MN, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at the Cambridge Medical Center in Cambridge, MN.

Charles was born on May 25, 1932 to Paul and Gertrude (Lederman) Silbernagel in Perham, MN. He attended school in the Dent area and joined the United States Army in 1952, and served until 1954.

On June 21, 1955, Charles was united in marriage to Arleen Sazama in Perham. Together they had four children, Debra, Gary, Dale, and Nancy.

Charles’ career was spent working 30 years as a railroad switch operator, starting with Great Northern and retiring with Burlington Northern. He enjoyed life by the lake and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and riding his John Deere mower. Most of all, his favorite times were those spent with family.

Surviving Charles are his children, Debra Schultz, Gary (Kimberly) Silbernagel, Dale (Merri) Silbernagel, and Nancy (Mark) Pederson; his grandchildren, Gary Silbernagel Jr., Joe Silbernagel, John Schattschneider Jr., Erik Silbernagel, Mark Pederson Jr., Michael Pederson, Adam Pederson, Tonya Japor, Shauna Silbernagel, Holli Schattschneider, Charissa McGriff, and Bethany Zinken; several great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his wife and best friend of 58 years, Arleen; his parents, Paul and Gertrude Silbernagel; and all of his brothers and sisters; and son-in-law, Mike Schultz.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. and Parish Prayers at 7:15 on Sunday, November 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent. Visitation will resume from 10:30-11:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:30 on Monday, November 25 at the church. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Dent.
