Carolyn Alberts

Carolyn Joan (Strand) Alberts, age 88, peacefully ascended to her eternal rest on January 9, 2020, at her home with her family by her side. She was born to Axel and Hazel (Johnson) Strand on March 10, 1931, in Western Springs, Illinois, and married Alfred "Sonny" Alberts on January 18, 1949, in Perham. Together, they raised their three children in Ottertail.

Carolyn worked in housekeeping at Essentia Health St. Mary's – Detroit Lakes hospital for over 36 years, retiring in 2007 as a supervisor. Retirement gave her the time she had long awaited to spend more time with her great-grandchildren, playing Yahtzee and Uno and working intricate picture puzzles. Her interests included quilting, counted cross stitch, flower gardening, and reading.

A kind, thoughtful, and generous person who was devoted to her family, Carolyn is survived by her children; Susan Alberts of Ottertail, Alfred "Bud" (Jane) Alberts of Bellevue, WA, Brian (Lisa) Alberts of New York Mills; five grandchildren Bobbi (Steve) Teeple of Dent, T.J. Bergeron of Moorhead, Denise (Dave) Niehaus of Perham, Katy (Nathan) Jacobs of Gallatin, TN, Daniel Alberts of Bellevue, WA; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister Nancy Snyder of Wilmington, IL; and brother Duane (Patricia) Strand of Vergas.  Preceding her in death were her parents Axel and Hazel Strand, husband of 56 years Sonny Alberts, brother Donald Strand, grandson Thomas Bergeron, and great-granddaughter Tabitha Belmonte.

Carolyn was a beacon of light who will be dearly missed.

A gathering of family and friends will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham, MN.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the breast cancer or other charity of your choice.
