Carol Diederichs

August 6, 1933 — April 19, 2023

Carol Faye Diederichs was born August 6, 1933 and died April 19, 2023.

Carol Eide was born at home on a farm outside of Littlefork, Minnesota on August 6, 1933 to Albert and Mildred (Petrie) Eide. She joined her older sister Joyce in the home. When Carol was six years old her mother passed away and her father moved to Alaska. She and her sister were then taken in by her aunt and uncle Norby and Vivian Fiedler who raised them on their farm.

Carol met Alvin Diederichs on the farm in Littlefork. They were married on March 20, 1950. Al then received a call to come back to work on the Prairie Nest wheat ranch outside of Great Falls, Montana where he and some friends had worked after returning from the war. Carol was hired to work as a cook at the ranch for 20 hired men despite having little cooking experience at the time. She learned quickly and was always known for her wonderful, large meals throughout her life. Carol had three children: daughters Debra born in 1953, Cindy born in 1961 and son Lyle born in 1962. Carol was primarily a homemaker but did work during many harvests as one of the first female combine operators on the ranch. She later worked at testing the protein content of all the wheat trucked in during harvest season. Carol made amazing wedding cakes professionally for a number of years. Carol enjoyed painting, growing flowers, and spending time (and an occasional crème de cacao and soda) with many friends in the Great Falls area.

In 1990, they moved to Dent, Minnesota after Al’s retirement to live on his family farm. They spent many years renovating the old farm house and fixing up the very large yard. Carol belonged to the Dent Diggers Club, serving as president for a few years. She attended an exercise class two days a week in Dent where she made several friends. She grew flowers in her yard that were admired by everyone. In Carol’s later years, she and Al spent winters in Florida with their children Lyle and Debbie. In 2022, Carol moved to Perham Living to join Al who had been there for three years.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Joyce; and her adoptive uncle and aunt.

Carol is survived by her husband Alvin; children Debra Diedrichs, Lyle Diederichs, and Cindy (Juan) Garza; granddaughters Kelsey and Mariah; and great-grandson Raylan.

The family would like to thank the staff at Perham Living for their kind care for her over this past year.
