Buster Meyer

Buster Meyer, age 77, of Perham , MN , passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010 .


Buster Paul Meyer was born on February 8 ^th , 1933 at what would be the residence for most of his life. This house resided in Pine Lake Township in Otter Tail County . He was born to Edward H. Meyer and Ida H. Ogroske Meyer. Reverend Julius Nickel both Baptized and Confirmed Buster. The Baptism and Confirmation took place on February 12 ^th , 1933 and June 9 ^th , 1946 , respectively. His Confirmation verse is John 10: 27, 28. Buster Meyer was married to Karen Joan Schave by Reverend Richard Guehna. The marriage, which would last from that point onwards, took place on November 2 ^nd , 1963 .



He spent his grade school years at Pine Lake Township District 248. The High School years were spent in Perham High School and he graduated as part of the Class of 1950. After graduation, he joined his father on the farm. Buster’s assistance lasted from 1950 through 1954. From November of 1954 to September of 1956 Buster was employed by the U.S. Army. During his military career, his bases were Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Camp Caffee , Arkansas . His place was in the 510 ^th Field Artillery Battalion. Buster was deployed to Salzburg , Austria and Baumholder , Germany . Other countries that he traveled to while in the Service included: England , Denmark , Belgium , France , Italy , Germany , and the Netherlands . He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1956 and again joined his father on the Farm. This second term of farming with his father lasted from 1956 until 1959. Buster then joined his brother, Jerome, in what would be the bulk of his farming career. The partnership lasted thirty-five years, from 1960 through 1995.



1995 also marked the year of his retirement, though it didn’t lead to any inactivity on his part. Much of his time after retirement was dedicated to volunteering. Buster offered to mow lawn for various cemeteries and was more than willing to assist his neighbors with farm work. He spent many an hour providing company for Great Aunt Emma. For more than thirty years, he was a member of various Church boards.



Buster was the kind of person that would place concern for others above the concern for himself. The fact that he was such an unselfish person shined through very brightly in both his actions and attitude. Family and community were both vital elements in Buster’s life. Spending time with those that he loved gave him much joy.



Buster was tremendously proud of his children and his grandchildren. One of his favorite ways to interact with his grandchildren was through time spent playing pool, board games, and card games. Other interests of his included: the Twins, the Vikings, bowling, feeding and watching birds, his 520 John Deere tractor, and fishing. Buster was also known to be an avid gardener and often gave his produce to friends and neighbors.



Buster is survived by his wife, Karen. Children: Darin (Michelle) - Kalamazoo , MI ; Lynn (Darel) Ramberg - Goode, VA. Grandchildren: Ty and Lincoln (Ramberg) and Samuel and Benjamin (Meyer). Brothers: William (Delaine) - Perham , MN ; Edgar, (Dorothy) - Minneapolis , MN ; and Jerome (DeLaine) – Perham, MN. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved and will mourn the loss of him.



Buster was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Ida Meyer, and two sisters, Adeline Merille and Ardelle Brezina.



The loss of such a great man is a true reason to grieve. He will be missed beyond what words can describe.
