Betty Johnson

Betty Johnson, 82, was granted her Angel wings on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, with her family by her side. She was born on October 28, 1936 in Donnelly MN, at home to Joseph and Bertha (Krienke) Mau.

Betty graduated from Morris High School in 1954. She met Jerry (Gerald) in Morris, MN, renting a room from Jerry’s parents. He came home from the Navy, met and fell in love with her, and the rest is history. They married on October 21, 1956. They renewed their wedding vows on April 19, 1980 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

Betty worked at the Delano High School Library from 1972 to 1986. From there, she continued her working career at the State Bank of Loretto, working there for another 14 years, before she retired. In 1998, Betty and Jerry moved from Delano and retired in a log cabin home they built in Perham, MN.

Betty had many hobbies and loves including her children, spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids, knitting, sewing, baking, reading, hunting, fishing, traveling, walking, gardening, her Church and God. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Bertha and Joseph Mau; her brother Erv Mau; her sister Delores Mau; father-in-law Shorty (Henning) Johnson; mother-in-law Sally (Hoium) Johnson; sisters-in-law Pat Mau and JoAnne Mau; son-in-law Jimmy Embola; great-granddaughter Paisley Schwarzrock; and beloved pet Foxy.

Betty is survived by her beloved husband Gerald Johnson; daughter Toni (Duane) Hirsch and family including Nichole and Chad Kuechle (Sunny, Annie and Odin), Jason and Jill Hirsch (Brecken, Brody and Brynlee), Ashley Hirsch (Parker, Faith and Bentley), Brandon Hirsch and Brittany Ferrell (Oaklee), and honorary granddaughter Aryssa Trotter; daughter Sandy (Mark) Anderson and family including Tara Moores (Rylee, Tommy and Madison), Tracy and Anthony Chojnacki (Brooklyn, Addilyn and Reed), Alicia and Justin Bigley (Cameron, Nick and Evelyn), and Shannon Anderson (Kaysen, Kade and Kinlee); daughter Linda Embola and family including Sarah Altmann and William Linebaugh (Caydance and Harper), Isaac and Nancy Altman (Evalyn), and Hannah Altmann; and son Mark (Tina) Johnson and family including Kristine Johnson (Gage), Cassandra Yarbrough (Sarah, Destiny and Nicolas), Tyler Johnson,
Alicia and Jimmy Schwarzrock (Bentley and Aynsley), and Dylan Johnson; her brother Joe (Carol) Mau; and her sisters Fran (Kenny) Habisch and Karen Foede.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Perham.
