Agnes “Agie” (Loeffen) Hemmelgarn, age 90, of Perham, MN passed on to eternal life on June 18, 2019 at Hadley House Assisted Living.
Agie was born May 23, 1929 in Detroit, MI to Marianus and Minnie (De Leest) Loeffen. Her family moved to the farm near Butler, MN when she was one year old with her six siblings. On a blind date she met the man who stole her heart, Clarence Hemmelgarn. They were married on March 31, 1948 in Perham, MN. They were blessed with three children; James, Anita and Suzanne.
Agie was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Clarence’s construction business. Although she did not work outside the home, she was a very social person enjoying coffee with the neighbor ladies, bowling in two leagues, Mission Circle, and Ladies Auxiliary 4020. Clarence & Agie enjoyed traveling and dancing every weekend especially to the Wee Willie Polka Band. Agie loved life to the fullest and was known to always have a smile on her face and was full of spunk. Her greatest joys in life were her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Always up for a game of dice. Agie loved baking, quilting, crocheting, gardening, dancing, bingo, puzzles and the Minnesota Twins. She passed on her love of flowers, gardening and embroidery to her granddaughter Gina. Her house was decorated for every holiday especially the spectacular Christmas village.
Agie enjoyed attending her children’s softball games and later her grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and made sure they would always remember her by keeping them warm with her beautiful crocheted blankets she made for all of them. One of her joys was to make pillow blankets, she graced family and friends with over 100 of them.
She is survived by her son James (Lisa), Richville, MN; daughter Anita (Jay) Krisnik, Ellsworth, WI; sister-in-law Mary Loeffen, Lead, SD; grandchildren Gina (Tyler) Ice, Fergus Falls, MN; Troy (Megan), Perham, MN; Travis (Chelsey), Perham, MN; and 8 great grandchildren; Carly, Morgan, and Jolie Ice; Peyton, Noah, and Lauren Hemmelgarn; and Parker and Rylie Hemmelgarn along with many nieces and nephews.
